Hostels were first introduced in Germany around 1909. There has been a new discovery of Hostel films made, which promoted visiting the country side of Germany during this era.

news1-1Today Evan Lowenstein and I were featured in Rochester City Newspaper‘s News & Opinion section, in an article written by Jeremy Moule. He was kind enough to listen to our story, and discuss the impact having a hostel would have on our fair city.

Moule writes: “Does the City of Rochester need a hostel? Local residents Evan Lowenstein and Michael Lasota say it does.

Hostels provide inexpensive lodging for travelers and are common in cities around the world — Buffalo and Syracuse each have one. Hostels typically provide a more social experience for travelers and tend to be popular with the younger crowd. They often have dormitory-style rooms — though many also have private rooms — and common kitchens so visitors can prepare their own food. Some hostels arrange group tours or outings for their guests.”

Great coverage by WHAM 13 TV

vlcsnap-2013-02-18-17h09m39s132ROCHostel has received some excellent coverage by WHAM 13 TV! Reporter Alexis Arnold journeyed on a cold and snowy Sunday to meet with Evan and Mike at Evan’s abode in the Neighborhood of the Arts. Remarkably, the story enjoyed great placement on not only the 6 pm Sunday news, but also the 11 pm news *and* the Monday morning news! The train is rolling, get on board!

I can’t believe Rochester has no Hostel!

I’ve been around the US to big cities and small cities. I had the privilege of managing the Pirate Haus Inn & Hostel with Conrad Matt in St Augustine, Florida for nearly 2 years on and off. It was one of my favourite jobs, and happiest experiences in life.

I am also from Western New York. Born and raised in Buffalo – and then later spent many years in Rochester, with it’s great amass of arts and culture.

Buffalo, NY has a Hostel, and even Syracuse, NY does. But it seems this little gem in between is lacking one.

My plan and ambition is to work with a variety of talented folks to bring this project together and open Rochester’s first hostel.

If you’re interested in helping out, or investing in this matter (and we NEED inveters!), please write or call us. Your help will bring a fun and exciting new twist to our unique and fascinating city.

Thank you for your interest and stay tuned for news as we proceed in this adventure.

Sincerely,

Michael W. Lasota co-proprietor.
